DIY Dog Walking Station
“Do you want to go for a walk?”
These words can send a tornado of chaos through the house. As soon as our dogs hear it, they run to the door, jumping up and down in excitement, and barely sitting still to gather all the necessary equipment. Even if your dogs are well-behaved, it can be a chore to find all the supplies for taking a walk with your dog. The doggie bags are in the cupboard, the treats are in the pantry, and the leashes are in the garage. As much as we love our dogs’ excitement at the prospect of going for a walk, grabbing everything you need while Lenny dances in circles around your legs is somewhat of a safety hazard.
If you’re a crafty dog parent, this DIY Dog Walking Station is perfect for you. All the supplies are readily available at your local hardware and craft stores, and you can easily customize it to your liking. This station has a basket for storing dog-walking necessities, like Lenny’s favorite ball, and the hooks are great for hanging leashes, harnesses, and even your car keys. You can even assign hooks to specific pets so they know exactly where their leashes are at all times.
- 1 piece of wood backing
- Fender washers
- Screw Drivers
- Your choice of wooden or metal basket
- Your preferred choice of hanger
Place your wooden backing on a flat surface. Plan out where your basket and hooks will hang by placing them on the backing and marking where you want to place the screws. If you would like to, you can varnish or paint your backing, but it’s not necessary.
To attach the basket, place it on your surface, then put your screws through the fender washers. Use a screwdriver to drill the screws and washers into the marks you made. Screw your hooks into the wood.
Finally, draw out your decorations with a pencil. Pawprints are easy for even the artistically-challenged, and if you’re really fancy, you can write the names of your pets. Use a sawtooth hanger or a wire to hang your dog walking station. It’s important that whatever you use be strong enough to support not just the station, but also the items you’re going to be storing there.
The great thing about a dog walking station you’ve made yourself is that it matches the decor in your home. We hope you get lots of use out of this station, and it brings some organization to your routine.
